Patrick, a UNM School of Law graduate, is an incredible asset to SC Law. He has defended clients in all aspects of medical malpractice, product liability, and general liability litigation. He has extensive experience representing healthcare providers, including hospitals, long-term care and assisted living facilities, and individual practitioners. Patrick’s experience includes representing clients in premises liability, tractor-trailer accidents, breach of contract, and commercial dispute matters. In three separate cases, Denise Chanez and Patrick Coronel recently prevailed in the New Mexico Court of Appeals. In each of these cases involving skilled nursing and long-term care facilities, the New Mexico Court of Appeals reversed orders denying their clients’ motions to compel arbitration and enforced provisions that delegate the authority to decide challenges to arbitrability to an arbitrator. This was an excellent result for the clients and for the firm.

She previously completed the Administrative Assistant Program at New Mexico’s Technical Vocational Institute. Kateri has experience with large and small clients, in both government and private sectors. She has litigated a wide range of legal matters including professional liability, consumer fraud, contract breach, premises liability, wrongful death, personal injury, land use, and employment law matters. Kateri has successfully defended clients in suits in state and federal court and has obtained favorable outcomes for her clients. She was recognized as a Rising Star by SuperLawyers in 2024. Kateri is passionate about serving her local community and improving the lives of all New Mexicans. While attending the University of New Mexico School of Law, Kateri was a W.K. Kellogg Child and Family Justice Advocate and a 2019 Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Fellow. Ms. West developed oral and written advocacy skills by competing on the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition moot court team. She also served as a teaching assistant, a research assistant, and the student representative to the Curriculum Committee. Kateri received the Ann C. Scales Jurisprudence Award for her “demonstrated commitment to moving the law forward in the service of humanity” through innovative legal work with the Moms of Law student group, which she co-founded. After law school, Kateri co-coached the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Moot Court Team for the University of New Mexico School of Law, serving as an adjunct faculty. Kateri was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to law school, Kateri started her career as a mechanical engineer and spent a decade in medical device sales for several Fortune 500 companies. When she is not at work, Kateri enjoys skiing, hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful mountains of her native New Mexico with her family. She is an Edge Core member, ministering to middle school youth at Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a member of the PoP choir. Her work has resulted in the dismissal of administrative claims brought before a disciplinary hearing board as well as successful rulings and dismissals in both state and federal court for her clients. During law school, Ms. Lopez served as Editor-in-Chief of the New Mexico Law Review and was selected to serve as an extern in the chambers of the Honorable Justice Barbara J. Vigil of the New Mexico Supreme Court. Upon graduation, Ms. Lopez was among the top students of her graduating class and received a LexisNexis Award for Top Academic Achievement, the UNM School of Law’s Faculty Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Law School, and the West Academic Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in the Third Year. She also graduated with the distinction of summa cum laude and is a member of the Order of the Coif honor society. In addition to her legal expertise, Ms. Lopez brings over twelve years of work experience with the State of New Mexico. She has worked in both executive and judicial branches of state government and developed an insider's knowledge of administrative processes and procurement law that creates an invaluable edge that further serves her clients.
