Kateri G. West is an associate at Saiz Chanez Sherrell + Kaemper. She focuses her practice on General Liability and Health Law Litigation. Prior to joining SC Law, Kateri worked as an associate at two of the largest civil defense firms in New Mexico, in the practice of General Liability, Health Law and Public Finance.

 

Kateri has experience with large and small clients, in both government and private sectors. She has litigated a wide range of legal matters including professional liability, consumer fraud, contract breach, premises liability, wrongful death, personal injury, land use, and employment law matters. Kateri has successfully defended clients in suits in state and federal court and has obtained favorable outcomes for her clients. She was recognized as a Rising Star by SuperLawyers in 2024.

 

Kateri is passionate about serving her local community and improving the lives of all New Mexicans. While attending the University of New Mexico School of Law, Kateri was a W.K. Kellogg Child and Family Justice Advocate and a 2019 Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Fellow. Ms. West developed oral and written advocacy skills by competing on the American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition moot court team. She also served as a teaching assistant, a research assistant, and the student representative to the Curriculum Committee. Kateri received the Ann C. Scales Jurisprudence Award for her “demonstrated commitment to moving the law forward in the service of humanity” through innovative legal work with the Moms of Law student group, which she co-founded. After law school, Kateri co-coached the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Moot Court Team for the University of New Mexico School of Law, serving as an adjunct faculty.

 

Kateri was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Prior to law school, Kateri started her career as a mechanical engineer and spent a decade in medical device sales for several Fortune 500 companies.

 

When she is not at work, Kateri enjoys skiing, hiking and mountain biking in the beautiful mountains of her native New Mexico with her family. She is an Edge Core member, ministering to middle school youth at Prince of Peace Catholic Church and a member of the PoP choir.
